What other software do you have running on the machine that isnt native to windows? So you control the fan speeds manually? What's the temp limit for the GPUs in Wattman? The 14nm process and new design must significantly reduce leakage power. What card runs the monitor? The Sapphire RX ?
Take a look at the memory error rates on HWInfo. If you have a LOT your system will be unstable. It would result in faster degradation. If its degradation, you won't be able to do much about it. I am also puzzled at how the 2GB R7 is running. Claymore's Ethereum DAG file sizes are at 2. Little update on the situation: After the last post I have played around with the cables and risers and tried different configurations.
After that i got the rig to run without fluctuations, still on the old mobo and cpu. The cards are now showing stable hashrates and the system has been running stable for the last couple of days. January 7 edited January 8 in Mining. Asus p8h61 mobo Intel pentium 2. As you can see the hashrates are fluctuating quite a bit. Tried running on stock clocks and speeds, but the result stays the same. Sometimes after 3 hours and sometimes after 15 mins. Hope you guys can help me out! Post edited by MinerMees on January 8. I'm not sure about the hashrates.. I'm having problems myself but your fans are running really high. You might want to manually set those lower in Afterburner.
I did that myself, the sytem seems to draw less power when the cards are cool. About watts less. Those fluctuations appear to be normal. They are affected by the Effective Hashrate not the Reported Hashrate.
Enter an "s" on the keyboard and see what your average Hashrate is. I know fluctuations in the reported hashrate by the pool are normal, because it's based on submitted shares. However, I believe claymore is supposed to give stable hashrates, as in the "real" hashrates the cards are producing. Also when I press "s" in claymore it's not showing me constant hashrates either? My experience with fluctuations like that were because the card was running close to its maximum fan speed, but the temperatures were close to the maximum - resulting in the card throttling to keep the temperature below set maximum. In this case, it does not seem to be the case. Did you watch the system running for a few mins to see if the fluctuations are constant?
For example I use balanced power settings with the system set to never sleep. When I resume using the computer, the display and the drive has to wake up, so it suffers temporary fluctuation. But it goes back to normal. The biggest issue seems to be the crashing.
It doesn't disappear with cards at stock I assume? If that's true, then the issue for the stability might lie elsewhere. If you tried reinstalling the drivers, the problem may lie with rest of your system. Try running it with two, or even one video card. Just one at a time. See if stability improves. Yes the fluctuations are constant and I've always had them since I started mining.
It also happens with just one or two GPU's, doesn't matter which one. The rx is the latest addition to the rig and that's when the stability issues started occuring. I've had the system running stable with just the R7 's, although also with those fluctuations.
Could the bios mod be causing the random crashes? Eventhough I get no memory errors whatsoever. I've just done the usual memshift. I'll try flashing to the original bios and see if stability improves. However that still wouldn't explain the fluctuating hashrates? When I installed the rx I did a clean install of windows 10 and installed the new divers, but that didn't make a difference in the fluctuations.
It's difficult to isolate whether its a hardware issue, or due to setup configuration. The card itself may work fine, just that its not compatible with the system. I asked about one card because the power supply didn't look like its fully capable of handling 3x W rated cards. Try one card at a time, to see if they fluctuate. If the issues persist, I would conclude: I think I got the sytem running stable now with 2 cards, the still bios modded rx and the strix r7 It has been going for the past 10 hours without crashing.
As for the fluctuatios though, they still persist no matter what I do. I tried running one card, tried all of them but no luck. So it seems to be software related? Or compatibility problems like you said, will try a different mobo tomorrow. For the drives, I would plug one drive per cable. An alternative connection for the two card setup for that power supply is only using one of the peripherals for the one card's riser, and the other exclusively for drives.
The other card would have 1 PCIe cable powering the card, but the card would be powered by the motherboard because you can forgo the riser. A 3rd card would mean you would be powering two risers with 1 cable, and 1 of the PCIe cables would have 2 video cards connected to it. An alternative is if the 3rd card is connected to a PCIe x16 slot. In that case, it would be powered by the motherboard. That still means you'd place 2 cards into one PCIe cable.
How are the power cables arranged with the two cards you have got working now? If you have plugged in using the "ideal" configuration, that would explain the gain in stability. If the RX is fluctuating with only it plugged into it, and also with stock BIOS, then rest of the computer becomes the likely culprit.
Hopefully you have better luck with a different setup. Thanks for all the help! So right now I have both risers on a peripheral, the drive on a separate peripheral, the rx on PCIe, and the r7 also on peripheral molex to 6pin. I was able to test the "ideal" setup with just one card connencted, so PCIe to the card, peripheral to riser and separate peripheral to the drive.
However the fluctuations still persist. Tested it with all 3 cards. I'm going to try a clean install of windows on a different drive. If that doesn't help I'll try a different mobo and cpu. So what made it stable? I tried to decreased sensor polling period from ms to ms and this dips started to show up more frequently.
I have 3 cards in my PC and cards 0 , 1 took much lesser hit, like 0. I turned off HWInfo though I dunno if it's just a bug in calculations of hashrate or my last card really takes a hit every time HWInfo polls sensors. Sign In or Register to comment.
