Individual students and their teams will be awarded certificates and prizes for their sustainability work. The course was uniquely tailored for schools by the architectural practice and its collaborator, the Heaven Company, based on the 'Brief Cases' education initiative.

This brings education and the world of work closer together. A brilliant Cundall engineer who uses her free time to promote diversity and who tutors disadvantaged youngsters in maths has been crowned Young Woman Engineer of the Year by the Institution of Engineering and Technology IET.

It's the latest in a string of honours for year-old Dr Ozak Esu who is based in Cundall's Birmingham office. The IET Young Woman Engineer of the Year Awards celebrate women working in modern engineering — and aim to help change the perception that engineering is predominantly a career for men by banishing outdated engineering stereotypes of hard hats and greasy pipes. After assembling an initial set of options for the new main stand roof to allow cost comparisons, the decision was taken for Cundall to progress with a detailed design for the "Girder Truss" option, which the Club had chosen as it was cost effective and completed the arena, matching the existing stadium design philosophy.

The three existing stand roofs are carried on corner towers, two of which Cundall had designed to accept the additional load of a future new fourth stand.

The latest truss is supported on bearings at each tower, with the booms of the trusses employing sections of varying wall thickness for economy. Regeneration has received another boost as planners green-light proposals to transform a faded hotel in Elm Road with a new lease of life.

The scheme includes suite-style guest apartments, a restaurant, a leisure centre, high quality services, and the hotel's own service bay to avoid traffic disruption during deliveries. But the existing building at Elm Road requires modernisation, does not fulfil its potential, and could better support the local economy and demand for accommodation in the area.

The borough has identified a need for more visitor accommodation and LHG's new hotel - which doubles the capacity of the current building, and has ten per cent of guestrooms universally accessible - will help meet that need plus contributing to the overall regeneration of Wembley Central.

Dexter Moren Associates previously worked with LHG on the newly-completed Best Western Plus Wembley and the Elm Road proposal reflects LHG's real engagement with the area, designing the Aparthotel to fit Wembley's ambitious town centre regeneration, and to be part of the neighbourhood. Cundall has announced the expansion of its security specialism with the appointment of Chadik Miah as Principal Security Consultant. Chadik joins the international multidisciplinary engineering consultancy from BB7.

He brings with him a wealth of client-facing experience in areas such as security threat and risk assessments, security strategy and masterplanning, Secured by Design SBD , counter terrorism and physical security design, blast assessment and design, and Hostile Vehicle Mitigation HVM. I am looking forward to bringing my knowledge to Cundall and providing added value to their existing client offering. A key regeneration project which promises to bring skills and new employment into the region, SGP's design for a single three storey building will accommodate a training centre and light maintenance facility.

Upstairs are two bedrooms, an office and a bathroom. Having done a significant amount of research into alternative materials and methodologies, Paul and Nicola created the design concept as well as acting as project managers and sometime hands-on builders of their new home.

The latest round of global negotiations on tackling climate change, COP23, came to an end on Friday. These UN talks are hugely important, highly complex and will never end, because climate change is going to loom larger and larger as an issue of concern through this century.

But I hope one big picture which the negotiators from nearly countries won't ever lose sight of is the need to closely link action on reducing emissions and coping with climate change to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals — the SDGs.

These goals provide a golden opportunity to help nations make sustained progress on addressing global warming — both individually and collaboratively. The 17 wide-ranging goals were developed in a ground-breaking way with civil society organisations, including Bioregional, and agreed by world leaders in The SDGs recognise how the environmental and social aspects of sustainability are interconnected.

There is a standalone Goal, number But they acknowledge that national policies and global programmes on climate change won't be effective if they are devised in isolation; they need to join up with action on poverty reduction and inequality, health, education and so on.

They also recognise the roles and responsibilities of all — governments, business, civil society and citizens — in creating positive and necessary changes. And they are meant to apply everywhere, in countries rich and poor. Cundall's new Hong Kong office is a showcase in how to cost-effectively deliver a first-class office fit-out whilst creating a healthy, efficient and future-proof space that is both kind to the environment and puts the wellbeing of occupants at the heart of the design.

The 3, ft2 office, located on the 7th floor of The Hennessy, an iconic building in the heart of Wanchai, is an expression of the international multi-disciplinary engineering company's belief that sustainable design can forge a workspace that promotes individual well-being as well as inspiring creativity and collaborative working.

Ding Li has joined international multi-disciplinary engineer Cundall as Corporate Sustainability Consultant, based in the Hong Kong office. Ding specialises in the field of environmental management consulting, as well as corporate social responsibility CSR rating and advisory services. Ding will be leading the development of Cundall's Corporate Sustainability offering in Asia and assisting clients to embed sustainability principles into their business operations and organisational culture.

Local stakeholders, including council representatives, occupiers, developers and investors, enjoyed a walking tour of the Growth Zone in Croydon and were offered an insight into how this major investment by LHG will act as a catalyst for regeneration of the area that will benefit visitors and staff of neighbouring Croydon University Hospital and Croydon Masjid Islamic Centre as well as local residents.

The boutique PR specialist, which has worked exclusively in architecture-construction-engineering since , has been a trailblazer for single-sector PR focus, recruiting industry professionals to develop its expertise in the complex world where it remains a market leader. The Suffolk-based consultancy has now been picked by progressive architectural practice Urban Edge Architecture, to keep its communications strategy moving forward at the same pace as the growing business.

It has a burgeoning and varied portfolio and it's a great match with our experience and expertise. Satellite is all about results, all about delivering quantifiable value to clients like Urban Edge, and we're incredibly proud that all our new business comes from word-of-mouth recommendations. That means we're getting it right for professionals in a sector which is always under scrutiny, always at the centre of public debate, and whose work affects every person in the street. The niche Suffolk-based agency has been selected to promote LHG as it rolls out a string of innovative boutique-vibe metro hotels.

It has a sharp contemporary take. Today's guests are savvy, conscious of both value and quality. That's what LHG offers - at pocket-friendly prices". LHG's portfolio includes playful hotels, each reflecting the personality of the neighbourhood in which it is situated — from Lovely Jubbly bedroom designs in the Peckham of 'Only Fools and Horses' to footballing murals in guest rooms near iconic Wembley Stadium.

The travel experience starts in the room and visitors wake up in the place they're visiting, not in a 'brand'. Fun, funky, brilliant value, the hotels are set up for both leisure and business travellers. Satellite has worked exclusively across property, architecture, design, construction and engineering since , carving a name for itself as a leader in specialist communications for the sector. Signing LHG is a major coup for the agency which gets all its new business through word-of-mouth recommendation.

Satellite MPR has welcomed two new members of the team — account executive Susanna Annesley, and consultant and copywriter Jane Spence. Susanna has hit the ground at full tilt, working with clients across the board. With a doctorate in history and a passion for all aspects of the built environment, Susanna brings to the business huge knowledge, an aptitude for data analysis and rigour in research, and a wealth of client-facing experience.

Jane is also an LL. B and has an interest in planning law, having undergone solicitor training. Previously at Pollard Thomas Edwards and Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Viktoria brings seven years' experience working with various BIM applications and four years of strategically implementing standards and processes for better collaboration, ultimately improving project delivery. I like building and empowering teams, provoking curiosity and surprise by coaching people who think technology is not for them.

I like giving others the confidence to solve problems themselves. Her experience and skills will be a valuable addition to our BIM team, at a time when BIM is playing an increasingly core role across all the sectors in which we operate.

We know that expanding our BIM services will bring key benefits to our clients, such as a smoother design and construction process, and better productivity.

Local architects plan transformation of Great Central Station and site of former Stibbe factory into hotels, offices and new public space. Leicester's Connecting Spaces regeneration project has received a big boost with the unveiling of a new plan to transform Great Central Station and the site of the former Stibbe factory. At the heart of the proposal is a new traffic-free public space, which will include part of Great Central Street so that the refurbished station becomes integral to the development.

The Masterplan also involves creating a new pedestrian "super-crossing" of Vaughan Way, linking the development directly to the city centre. The development of this site, with the pedestrian "super-crossing" of Vaughan Way and the continuation of this route to the Great Central Station, provides a key link between the city centre and the Waterside Regeneration Area. A brilliant Cundall engineer who uses her free time to promote diversity and who tutors disadvantaged youngsters in maths has been named as a finalist in Young Woman Engineer of the Year Award, the Institution of Engineering and Technology IET has announced.

One-to-watch Ozak is an electrical engineer at Cundall, the multi-disciplinary consultancy, where she undertakes surveys of existing buildings, and engineers co-ordinated electrical services for newbuild, refurbishment and fit-out projects.

She graduated with first class honours from Loughborough University and has been with industry leader Cundall since Dr Ozak works in the Birmingham office of Cundall, which has a reputation for providing sustainable solutions.

Women are under-represented in this profession and if I can do anything to raise its profile as a fantastic career for anyone and everyone, then I'm truly honoured. I want to excel as an engineer - and as a Member of the IET working towards professional registration, it's encouraging to have my contribution recognised.

Congratulations to all the other finalists. Dr Ozak says she was inspired to study electronic and electrical engineering at Loughborough University because of the power crisis in her country, Nigeria. Learning about renewable energy developed her interest in sustainability which is at the core of the work she does at Cundall. Since joining Cundall in , Ozak has selflessly carried out her duties as a local STEM ambassador mentoring many students at our Birmingham office.

This is yet another award which recognises the wider contribution that she has made to Cundall, the local academic community and her profession. Ozak, along with many of our other staff, are shining lights in the wider world as we work to improve diversity and inclusion in construction. The scheme gained reserved matters approval from the London Borough of Barnet Planning Committee on 19th September This phase completes the enclosure of the Panoramic Park, Officers' Mess Gardens, Southern crescent and Northern edge with well detailed buildings of high-quality contemporary design and an airy, green feel.

We provided full architectural design from re-planning the site to submitting the application. Our vision is to create a sustainable neighbourhood, respecting the surrounding environment and creating spacious state-of-the art houses and apartments with fabulous views and outlook across beautifully landscaped surroundings.

The traditional setting of Mill Hill, and the parks bordering the site, meant the design had to respond sensitively to the wider context with a narrow plan form. This involved adapting classic Regency style, taking into account the needs of contemporary life.

The exciting mix of housing types means that residents of varied tenures will be able to live as a real community in this new district. As the site sits within a wider regeneration, the 3DReid team gave much consideration to the look of the housing to ensure it complied with both the parameter plans and outline consent - and would sit comfortably among other developments of different architectural styles.

The main apartment building is split with a glass atrium creating a marker for the entrance of the building and connecting the internal courtyard with the sweep of park, visually linking the two green spaces.

The Curtain is a nine storey, key new build restaurant, hotel and members club located at the heart of Shoreditch. The building is located on the site of a former s office block on the corner of Curtain Road, and its design reinterprets the area's 19th century warehouse heritage. Cundall is proud to be supporting the Edinburgh based charity 'It's good 2 give! Cundall undertook dynamic thermal modelling of the building to ascertain the potential thermal comfort performance of the spaces using natural ventilation via external window openings.

Cold water is provided from a localised bore hole with water treatment plant within the building. Designed by architects the Kettle Collective, the m2 three bedroom house features a distinctive ripple shaped roof with large glass windows providing stunning views across the loch. Inside, elegance and luxury are combined with fun and colourful elements to create a modern space that is full of light and the reflections of the Retreat's stunning surroundings.

More than 40 families are expected to use the retreat each year for short breaks of up to a week long. Explains Graham Thomson, Associate at Cundall: We were asked to provide building services designs for the Ripple Retreat which we undertook as part of our campaign to volunteer 40, hours for our 40th anniversary.

Working alongside Tony and his team on this iconic building, the "ripple retreat", we developed the building services to compliment the architectural philosophy. Our services were tailored to suit the remote location, which included an air source heat pump, providing a sustainable source of heat to the building whilst limiting the impact on the natural environment.
