It would be difficult to make alterations or give notes in time for them to matter. But once the footage started coming in, we realized that we had nothing to worry about. Every department delivered above and beyond our expectations. Our cast was stellar. They played off each other wonderfully.
Most of all, however, Heath continually knocked it out of the park. He had a gift for light banter, as well as more dramatic scenes, and performed well in the fights.
None of us could. As the weeks went by, creative differences erupted between our showrunners, the studio and the network as they often do. As writers, we felt pulled in every direction. The mandates changed each week.
The scripts suffered as their tone had to repeatedly be altered to fit the whims of our multiple masters. One week the show was very grounded in reality. The next it had special effects.
One week it had magic. The week after magic was outlawed. It drove us nuts. The only consistency seemed to come from Australia. No matter what we threw at our actors, they delivered, time and time again. During my first episode, our female lead, Vera Farmiga who has since moved on to a noteworthy feature film career had an emergency appendectomy. She was back three days later. FOX tried an experiment in It decided to produce a show that was not quite Braveheart and not quite Xena. It decided to produce a show with total unknowns in the cast. And although we were cancelled halfway through, the show drew ratings that FOX would be envious of today. They should pull it out, promote it, and air it. A generation of audiences who came to know and love Heath Ledger in his extraordinary film career deserve to see the work they never saw, and be awed by the unique talent we still mourn today.

I bought the ROAR! I had never heard of the series even though Fox reportedly aired it in the USA. It is a visually stunning series to watch, and not just because the actors were all great looking.
It was worth the money — I found it on Amazon. Actually,the space channel here in Canada is always airing Roar. I bought this on dvd before Heath passed. Seeing as it took you a year to get around to watching it after you bought it, I would have to say that you are a bit behind in what is on TV!
I do agree, its a great show and Heath was the main reason to watch. It has a huge on-line following still today. I remember watching this show when it first aired. I was instantly drawn in to the story as soon as Heath came on the screen and I was so sorry when it was taken off the air. It was nice to read this behind the scenes look. That aside, I was swept away by Heath Ledger and furthermore I boycotted the stupid little show that replaced Roar! They did not tune into the mystical, magical Celtic dreaming that had such rich possibilities for scripts, as well as linking into Arthurian legend.
